Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument, Riverside Park
Stroll over to Riverside Park and appreciate the significance behind Memorial Day by visiting the Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument. The monument is located at 89th street and Riverside Drive. It commemorates those Union Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the American Civil War to ensure a better future for the country. The Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument is also considered to be an NYC landmark and a state landmark. A scheduled observance is expected to take place between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Memorial Day. The observance draws thousands of visitors since the 9/11 attacks. Afterwards, you can head over by the waterfront paths and enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

The Butterfly Conservatory, American Museum of Natural History
Ending May 27th: Don’t miss the fantastic Butterfly Conservatory exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History. The popular annual seasonal exhibition is back with more than 500 free-flying butterflies amid lush tropical plants! The exhibition features butterflies from three of the five butterfly family classifications. The highlights include butterfly anatomy, butterfly metamorphosis, and butterfly defense mechanisms.
NY Philharmonic Memorial Day Concert, May 27th at 7:00 PM
Now and then something happens that makes you feel proud of institutions and the music-loving public. One such event is the New York Philharmonic’s Annual Free Memorial Day concert,” raved The New York Times. Join us at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, where you’ll be surrounded by the sounds of Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Saint-Saëns’s Organ Symphony.
Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance; ticket distribution will begin at 5:00 PM. The audio of the concert will be broadcast onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting.
